D.C.M. London Gazette 19 August 1916:

‘For conspicuous gallantry and resource on many occasions in charge of an advanced gun. Twice, when communication with the Battery was cut, he opened fire on his own initiative, and for seven weeks he displayed the greatest coolness and courage in working this gun, frequently under heavy fire.’

Edward Rose served during the Great War with the Royal Field Artillery in the French theatre of war, from 6 November 1914.
