A rare Colonial Police campaign group of four to Chief Officer F. Connolly, Kenya Security Forces, late Palestine, Malaya and Cyprus Police, whose medals and clasps constitute a ‘full house’ in respect of policing in all the major colonial flash points 1939-56

General Service 1918-62, 4 clasps, Palestine, Palestine 1945-48, Malaya, Cyprus (1715 B. Const. F. Connolly, Pal. Police); Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Africa General Service 1902-56, 1 clasp, Kenya (Chief Officer F. Connolly), mounted as worn, together with Palestine and Malaya Police badges, first two clasps on the G.S.M. sewn, good very fine (4) £500-600

Francis Connolly, a Glaswegian who was born in June 1912, enlisted in the Palestine Police as a Constable in November 1938. Promoted to 2nd Sergeant in April 1944 and to 1st Sergeant in May 1947, he joined the Malaya Police in April 1949, shortly after the police in Palestine were ordered to ‘stand down’. He was subsequently advanced to Special Constable in Malaya in November 1950, but of his subsequent exploits in Cyprus and during the Mau Mau troubles, currently nothing is known; well worthy of further research.
