Anthony “Tickey” Hawthorn was born in October 1936. He served with the Rhodesian Air Force, and was posted for his initial training at Halton in 1952. Having completed training he was posted as a Warrant Officer with 1 Squadron (Vampires) for operational service in Aden, January 1958. He did two tours of Aden, as part of the Rhodesian force which consisted of 16 Vampire Jets staffed by 22 officers and 72 other ranks. He subsequently became Warrant Officer in charge of 3 Squadron, and retired in 1978. He died in Durban, July 2010
