Four: Lieutenant G. W. J. Jenner, Army Service Corps, late 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons and Metropolitan Police

George William James Jenner was born in Alderley Edge, Stockport, Cheshire, in 1881. He attested for the 6th Dragoons at Manchester, 21 August 1900, and served with the Regiment in South Africa. Having advanced to Lance-Corporal, he transferred to the 2nd Dragoon Guards in August 1905. Three years later he transferred to the Army Reserve, before applying to join the Metropolitan Police. He was assigned to ‘L’ Division (Lambeth) in 1908, and advanced to the rank of Sergeant. He was posted for service as a Sergeant Instructor to the Depot, Northumberland Fusiliers, in September 1914. He was appointed a temporary Driver in the Army Service Corps, 29 December 1916, and served with the A.S.C. in the French theatre of war from 7 August 1917. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant, Army Auxiliary Horse Branch, Army Service Corps, 27 February 1917, advancing to Lieutenant in August 1918.

Jenner was discharged in May 1922. He resided in Blackpool in later life, and formed a mineral water bottling company called ‘Jenner & Butterworth’. He died 19 August 1936.
