Frederick James Morgan was born at Cawnpore, India, on 11 September 1872, and was educated at the Royal Hibernian Military School. He attested for the Liverpool Regiment at Dublin on 11 March 1890, and was appointed a Bandsman on 8 January 1892. Promoted Sergeant Drummer, 13 July 1896, he served with the Regiment in South Africa from 7 November 1897 until 6 November 1902. Promoted Colour Sergeant on 7 September 1903, he was discharged on 19 June 1912, after 22 years and 101 days’ service.
