Auction Catalogue
LONDON, Royal Mint, Trial Die, 1927, in nickel-brass, Britannia seated right, hand-striking a coin, rev. star of David, date in centre, edge plain, 25mm, 5.71g (cf. DNW 92, 284). Very fine and very rare £90-120
The Royal Mint uses a number of in-house stock dies, among them being the six-sided star of David with a date in the centre. The dates known are 1927, 1936, 1955 and 1957; all but the last are seldom met with. This and the next piece is almost certainly connected in some way with the preparations for the new British coinage of 1927
