Sold with an interesting and previously unavailable 3-page synopsis of the series of sales by a Sotheby’s insider, which demonstrates that, with a total realisation at the then prevailing exchange rates of £4,514,334, the 23,361 ancient and world (non-U.S.) coins from Jane Brand Allen’s estate formed the most valuable coin collection of its type ever sold up to that time (the second most valuable being John Work Garrett’s ancient and world (non-U.S.) coins, disposed of for c. $4,750,000)
