United States of America 45-Star National Flag (1896-1908), a very fine silk example measuring 56 inches x 62 inches. A previous owner’s letter accompanies the flag stating that it was bought by him 1969-70 and most probably came from the estate of the third and last Viscount Ypres when the contents of his home Attleborough, Norfolk, were sold. It is possible that the flag was presented to the then Lord French when he was Chief of the Imperial General Staff 1911-1914, the colours remain very crisp but the silk is shot and perished to some extent £60-120

Utah territory became the 45th State on 4 January 1896. The next to join was Oklahoma in 1907, the 46th star being added to the national flag in July 1908.
