A post-war military O.B.E. group of six awarded to Colonel J. N. Vallance, Sherwood Foresters, late Royal Artillery

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, O.B.E. (Military) Officer’s 2nd type, silver-gilt; Defence and War Medals, both inscribed (James N. Vallance 87237); Coronation 1953, unnamed; Efficiency Decoration, G.VI.R., 2nd issue, Territorial, dated ‘1950’, with second award bar; Cadet Forces Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue (Col. J. N. Vallance, OBE. TD. DL. ACF.) mounted court style for wear; together with a mounted set of six miniature dress medals, very fine and better (12)

James Vallance was born in Mansfield in 1906 and entered the military just before the outbreak of war in 1939, as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, having previously run the local bus company. He later served in the T.A. Promoted Major in 1947, he commanded the Robin Hoods, Sherwood Foresters, 1951-55. He received the O.B.E. in 1955 and retired in 1971 as Colonel and Cadet County Commander for Nottinghamshire. Colonel Vallance died in Mansfield in 1981. With some copied service notes.
