D.C.M. London Gazette 3 October 1919: Sergeant F. W. Hammond, K.R.R.C. (posted No. 1 Special Company, Syren, North Russia Expeditionary Force).

‘For marked gallantry and coolness on May 15th, 1919, between Meselga and Medvyeja-Gora. When his platoon was held up by severe rifle fire, he led a section forward and opened rapid fire at close range. Again, on 19th May, near Medvyeja-Gora, after the company had retired, he went back under close-range rifle fire and carried his wounded platoon commander to a place of safety.’

Sold with 13pp account of No. 1 Special Company The King’s Royal Rifle Corps, from April 9th to October 12th, 1919, including good narrative of the fighting in North Russia as part of Syren Force with several mentions of Sergeant Hammond. His was one of two D.C.M.’s won by the K.R.R.C. in North Russia.
