Al Valore Militare London Gazette 17 May 1919.

Lionel Pope Brown served with the Royal Garrison Artillery in France from 16 March 1915. He was commissioned into the R.G.A. (S.R.) on 26 February 1917, and later served in Italy with the 172nd Battery, R.G.A. The translation of the citation for his Al Valore Militare reads:

‘During the operations on the high plain of Asiago whilst directing the fire of his battery was wounded but undauntedly continued his command and in consequence of the loss of men he personally continued the fire with his cannon with marvellous example of courage to the defence of Asiago on San Sisto, November 1918.’
