The Army List for January 1902 lists Alexander D. Kirkpatrick as a Captain in the 5th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, with seniority dating from November 1892. Presumably he was attached to the 1st or 2nd Battalion of the regiment during the Boer War.
