5th Royal Irish Lancers, an extremely fine and scarce Edwardian officer’s 1856 pattern chapska, scarlet cloth top, bullion plume boss with green velvet embroidered ground this with gold embroidered EVIIR cypher, frontal gilt plate with silver overlays, KC Royal Arms, the restored honours of the 5th Irish Dragoons and the newly won honour Suakin 1885, complete with lion’s head side ornaments and velvet backed gilt chin chain, accompanying dark green cock’s feather plume, externally the cap is quite excellent with minute surface moth marks and staining to the scarlet top and only slight lustre loss to the gold skull lacing, internally the leather sweatband is sound but only a fragment of the crimson silk lining remains this is gold blocked to Hamburger Rogers, no plume holder and the plume a good modern production though glued rather than sewn £2500-3000
