Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Bhurtpoor (Asst. Surgn. D. Murray, M.D., 16th Lancers) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, traces of brooch marks to obverse, medal re-constituted and parts of naming retouched as a result, otherwise very fine £400-500

Denis Murray was born in January 1793, and qualified M.D., Edinburgh, in 1820. He was appointed Hospital Mate on 9 November 1812, and Assistant Surgeon in the 16th Light Dragoons, with whom he was present at the battle of Waterloo, on 22 June 1815, and was present also with the regiment at the siege of Bhurtpoor. He was appointed to the 31st Foot in November 1831, and successively, as Surgeon, to the 46th Foot in 1832, the 13th Foot in 1833, the 10th Dragoons in 1841, and to the 44th Foot in March 1846. He became Staff Surgeon 1st class in September 1846, and retired on 10 September 1847.
