Waterloo 1815 (Captain H. S. Blankley, 23rd Foot) fitted with original steel clip and ring suspension, minor edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine £1800-2200

Henry Stonyford Blankley was appointed Ensign in the 23rd Foot on 16 October 1805, being promoted to Lieutenant on 31 July 1806, and to Captain on 21 May 1812. He was a 2nd Battalion Officer and, although listed for reduction in 1814, he was placed on the Staff and served as Deputy Assistant Adjutant General at Waterloo. He was promoted Brevet-Major on 21 June 1817, and transferred to the 13th Light Dragoons in 1819. Major Blankley died in 1820.

Another medal is known to this officer and was in the Mackenzie Collection sold by Glendining’s in June 1934, Lot 134. Interestingly the very next lot in that sale contained two Waterloo medals issued to Lieutenant E. T. Ellis, of the same regiment.
