Josias Geyser, who was born in Matabele, East Griqualand, in May 1918, enlisted in the Royal Durban Light Infantry in June 1940, aged 22 years, following earlier service in the Special Service Battalion. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he was taken P.O.W. in North Africa on 20 June 1942. Geyser was released in late April 1945 and would appear to have been discharged back in Durban in the following year. His medals were issued in February 1953.
