Four: Warrant Officer J. A. H. Fawkner, Royal Air Force

1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals, all unnamed as issued, mounted as worn, nearly extremely fine (4) £150-200

Sold with the recipient’s Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book, a letter of sympathy to Mrs Fawkner and a letter on Ministry of Supply notepaper relating to the loss of the recipient’s aircraft.

J. A. H. Fawkner entered the Royal Air Force in 1942, training in Ansons, Oxfords and Mosquitos as a Navigator and Wireless Operator. In December 1944 he was transferred to the Far East and served as a Navigator / Wireless Operator in the Mosquitos of 684 Squadron. Fawkner was killed whilst on active service on 21.10.1945, aged 24 years, when his Mosquito, en route from Alipore to Saigon came down in bad weather.
