Recommendation for the French Medal of Honour, dated 1.9.1918. ‘Chief Mechanic Francis enlisted in the R.F.C. on March 5th, 1914. He has worked at all times with untiring devotion to duty. He has shown exceptional technical and organising abilitity, and I attribute the efficiency of 3rd Reserve Lorry Park in a very high degree to his efforts.
His cheerfulness and willingness has been a splendid example at all times to those working under him.’
Frederick Francis joined the R.F.C. on 3.3.1914. His trade was that of Driver. He served overseas and was promoted Flight Sergeant on 1.11.1917. On the formation of the R.A.F. he was regraded as Chief Mechanic. He served with the 3rd Reserve Lorry Park based at Bihucourt under the 3rd Brigade R.A.F.
