Robert McLaggan was born in the Parish of Cluney in Perthshire. He enlisted into the Army at Perth in 1875, aged 18 years. He served mainly with the 79th Highlanders attaining the rank of Colour Sergeant in 1885 and Paymaster Sergeant in 1887. In 1890 he transferred to the Corps of Military Staff Clerks and thence to the Army Pay Corps in 1893. Promoted Staff Sergeant Major in 1896, he was discharged in 1901. Sold with copied service papers.
