Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 (2929 Pte. J. Watt, 2nd Dragoons) last clasp unofficially riveted, good very fine £50-70

John Watt was born in Aberdeen and enlisted in the Royal Scots Greys in December 1886, aged 21 years. But his chosen profession transpired to possess all the hallmarks of an unhappy experience, a conviction for assault, and imprisonement, in September 1890, being followed by his discharge to the Army Reserve in late 1893. The advent of hostilities in South Africa, however, witnessed him being recalled to the Colours and he served in that theatre of war from June 1900 until January 1902, winning entitlement to the above described clasps. Watt was discharged as medically unfit in March 1902.
