George Ernest Butcher was born at Bermondsey, London, and attested for the 9th Lancers in London on 25 February 1895. After service in South Africa and India, he served during the Boer War from October 1899 until April 1902. Returning immediately to India, he remained there until November 1906 when, after a brief visit to England, he again went to South Africa and served there until April 1909, when he was finally discharged. Sold with copy service papers.
