M.M. London Gazette 31 August 1944. The following recommendation was extracted from official records:

‘On 9 June 1944 at
Commes L/Cpl Perkins was in charge of ‘D’ Coy stretcher bearers. Four men were injured whilst firing their 2-inch mortar, and immediately the enemy commenced to close in. L/Cpl Perkins, seeing that they would be captured, went out time and again under heavy MG fire until he had brought in all the injured men. He showed a high sense of duty and courage.’

Corporal Perkins served throughout the war with the 2nd Devons, taking part in three Assault Landings, namely Sicily, Italy, and D-Day. His M.M. was included in the first list of awards for Normandy.
