Pilot’s Flying Log Books, an interesting lot of original documentation relating to First Officer R. W. Ayres, a wartime Ferry Pilot with the Air Transport Auxiliary, comprising two R.A.F. Pilot’s Flying Log Books for the period April 1940 to October 1945, Certificate of Service, B.O.A.C.-A.T.A. Contract of Employment, three A.T.A. note books, and an excellent Album compiled by Ayres to portray the career of a Ferry Pilot, illustrating many of the great variety of aircraft flown. The lot is also accompanied by a propeller blade from a Fairchild in which Ayres crashed in June 1942 (Pilot not to blame) signed by other pilots and mounted on a plinth, approx. 42 inches overall, generally good condition

Ayres’ Flying Log Books record 863 deliveries of aircraft between June 1942 and October 1945. These include almost every imaginable type of fighter and bomber but more usually they were Fairchilds, Hurricanes, Beaufighters, Spitfires, and Ansons. During his last months of service he also made deliveries of the new Meteor jet fighter.
