Henry Marlow Sidneywas born at Brighton, Sussex, on 13 May 1835, and commissioned Cornet in the 1st Dragoon Guards on 13 May 1853. He became Lieutenant on 14 August 1857, and Captain on 21 September 1860. He served with the 1st Dragoon Guards in the campaign of 1860 in China, was engaged at Sinho, present at the fall of the Taku Forts, and engaged in the actions of 18th and 21st September, and also in the advance on Pekin. He transferred as Captain to the 12th Lancers in October 1861, and retired in 1865.
