Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 2 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Sobraon (Capt. A. W. Riley, 80th Regt.) extremely fine £600-700

Alexander William Riley was appointed Ensign in the 80th Regiment on 26 June 1838, becoming Lieutenant on 19 February 1841, and Captain on 22 December 1845, this last promotion vice one of the two Captains killed four days before at the battle of Moodkee. Captain Riley served throughout the campaign on the Sutlej, including the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur and Sobraon (medal and two clasps). He retired by the sale of his Commission in 1849.
