Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Nepaul (Asst. Surgn. Wm. Darby, 1st Lt. Infy. Battn.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, fitted with engraved silver ribbon buckle, good very fine £800-1000

William Darby was born in 1790 and entered the Army as Assistant-Surgeon in 1813. He was subsequently engaged in the Nepaul War of 1814-16 and the Pindari War of 1817-18. He was advanced to Surgeon in 1826, and was afterwards employed in the First Afghan War, becoming a Staff Surgeon in 1845. He died in London in 1865.
