France, 1928. France. Inauguration of the Trans-Pyrenean Railway Tunnel, a bronze medal by F.M. Michelet, standing figure on railway bogey dividing tunnel entrances in cartouches, reverse view of Pyrenees, legend below, 64 x 57mm. Very fine, scarce (£60-80)

The railway tunnel between Bedous and Canfranc was opened in the presence of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Gaston Doumergue, President of France, on 18 July 1928. Firmin Marcel Michelet, the artist, was a local sculptor and medallist from Tarbes
