Estimate: £100–£150

France, c.1840. France. General Kleber, a large uniface oval cast bronze medal, unsigned [after D. d’Angers], bust of Kleber three-quarters right, 255 x 215mm (cf. BDM I, 527; cf. BDW 2, 304). Very fine and rare; set into a wooden base (£100-150)

Kleber (1735-1800) was the French General-in-Chief in Egypt, assassinated in Cairo in 1800. The original medal was cast by David d’Angers in 1831; it is thought that this piece was perhaps issued at the time of the erection of the statue to Kleber in Strasbourg in 1840
