France, Foundation Stone of the Nismes Viaduct Laid, 1842, a pair of silver and bronze medals by J.J. Barre, bust of Louis Philippe I left, reverse legend in 16 lines, both 51mm (Moyaux 119; Swan 251) [2]. Extremely fine and practically as struck, the silver medal deeply toned; in contemporary octagonal maroon fitted presentation case, a very rare pair (£250-300)

Silver medal only illustrated. The construction of the railway line from Montpellier to Nismes involved building a viaduct at Nismes, the foundation stone of which was laid on 31 October 1842
