France, Marie de Médicis, c.1625, a cast bronze medal by G. Dupré, bust right in high ruff, retrograde legend, reverse Marie as Cybele, surrounded by her children as Olympian deities, LÆTA DEVM PARTV below, 53mm (Kress 567; Mazerolle 694; BDM I, 657; cf. Clifford Sale, lot 446-7). Date on truncation somewhat indistinct, otherwise a fine early cast, extremely fine and rare (£500-600)

Marie de Medicis (1573-1642), second wife of Henri IV, crowned Queen of France on 13 May 1610; her husband was assassinated the following day
