D/JX 219922 Able Seaman Norman Pilkington was killed when the Battleship H.M.S. Prince of Wales was sunk by Japanese torpedo bombers on 10 December 1941, when the ship was off the coast of Malaya. The Battle Cruiser H.M.S. Repulse was sunk in the same action, both ships being caught without adequate air cover.
