John Robinson joined the Scots guards in 1893 and served with them in the Boer War. He was R.S.M. of the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, from 1907 to 1916 (this battalion became the 5th and 1/5th Battalions of the regiment). He served with the 1/5th Battalion in Egypt and Gallipoli, and was wounded in Gallipoli. In 1916 he was appointed Lieutenant and Quartermaster of the 1/8th Battalion, with whom he served in Egypt, Sinai, France and Belgium, and was mentioned in despatches in 1917. The The Royal Victorian Medal was awarded on the occasion of the disbandment of the 3rd Battalion, Scots Guards, July 1906. He was awarded the M.B.E. in 1928, was promoted Major in 1931, and died on Empire Day, 1952.
