D.S.M. London Gazette 11 June 1942 ‘For outstanding zeal, patience and cheerfulness and for never failing to set an example of wholehearted devotion to duty without which the high tradition of the Royal Navy could not have been upheld.’

Ripley Registers confirm that the D.S.M. was awarded for service on H.M.S. ONSLOW, Captain Robert Sherbrook. This Officer was awarded the Victoria Cross whilst in Command of H.M.S. ONSLOW during the Battle of the Barents Sea in December 1942, when Convoy JW.51.B was defended against a vastly superior German Force cosisting of the ADMIRAL HIPPER, LUTZOW and a number of destroyers.
