Benjamin Sanderson, Deckhand R.N.R. was killed on 21 December 1915 when His Majesty's Paddle Minesweeper LADY ISMAY was mined and sunk near the Galloper Lightship. He was aged 29 and the husband of Violet Tonkinson (formerly Sanderson) of The Shawe, Cheadle, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. A native of Grimsby he is commemorated on Panel 14 of the Chatham Naval War Memorial.

The LADY ISMAY was taken over by the British Admiralty and converted for minesweeping duties. She was owned by P&A Campbell, built in 1911 by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company, of 495 gross registered tons. She was 220 feet in length, 26 feet in breadth, with a draught of 9 feet. Her diagonal compound steam engines of 165 n.n.p. gave her a speed of 17 knots.
