Awarded 14 April 1847.
John Bartlett was born in 1803. He joined the service as a Landsman on 9 May 1824 aboard H.M.S. WELLESLEY aged 21 years. He was advanced to Ordinary Seaman on 1 July 1825 and served in this rate aboard SPARTIATE (August 1825), VICTORY (December 1825) and WELLESLEY (May 1827). Whilst in the latter vessel he was advanced to Able Seaman on 1 May 1830. In this rate he subsequently served aboard BRITANNIA (July 1832), VICTORY (March 1835) and BRITANNIA (September 1835). Advanced to Captain of the Hold he served aboard PEMBROKE (April 1836) and VICTORY (March 1840). Advanced to Quartermaster on joining SILVIA (April 1842). He then joined INCONSTANT (May 1843) and served in this vessel until discharged to shore on 20 April 1847 having been awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal on 14 April 1847 whilst aboard H.M.S. INCONSTANT with 23 years servitude. Re-employed at Portsmouth Dockyard as a Seaman Rigger on 17 March 1854, he continued to work in this capacity until again discharged on 10 February 1857.
