Awarded 6 October 1843.
He earned his N.G.S. medal, clasp ‘Syria’, whilst serving as a Sergeant aboard H.M.S. THUNDERER, this award is known to have survived but has over the years become separated from the recipient’s Anchor Type L.S. & G.C. medal. He enlisted as ‘First substitute for Private James Massey, 67th Company’ Royal Marines on 26 March 1831, aged 18 years, born Dean Prior, Devon. He was discharged on 18 December 1843.
