Awarded 4 January 1836.
Enlisted on 30 April 1805 aged 20 years, born Stirling, Scotland, having served the previous two years in the Stirling Militia. Promoted to Corporal on 3 November 1809, and four days later received his Sergeant's stripes. His status did not end there, he was made a Colour Sergeant in September 1814, Sergeant Major in December 1831 and a Q.M. Sergeant in July 1832. He was finally discharged in February 1842, having served for more than 36 years with the Corps.
