Awarded 27 March 1833.
Alexander Smilie enlisted in the Royal Marines on 13 October 1808 in No 179 Company, which became No 52 Company after 1815 - both belonging to Woolwich Division. Born in Edinburgh, he was aged 18 years when he joined, and completed his 21 years service as a Private R.M. Since no details of the submission for this L.S. & G.C. medal have to date been found, its date of award has been given as that on which he was pensioned.
