Approximately 270 M.S.M’s of this type were awarded.

Dated ‘28.2.1951’ on the edge, the day on which authority was given to award M.S.M’s to all marines on the waiting list, with coincidental orders to cease the issue of this award until reinstituted some thirty years later. He was discharged and pensioned on 15 November 1937, recorded as 21 years sevice on the M.S.M. roll held at H.M.S. Centurion. He rejoined in 1939 and completed 30 years service. William Lillywhite had been born circa 1898, enlisted in 1916, and died on 29 April 1967.
