Frederick Peter Roberts was born on 23 May 1873 in Antony, Cornwall, and entered the Royal Navy from school, joining as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. IMPREGNABLE on 31 August 1888 aged 15 years. He served in China aboard REDPOLE between 8 October and 31 December 1900. He served during the Great War as Acting Bosun (Warrant Officer) and was present at the battle of Jutland aboard H.M.S. BELLEROPHON. He was promoted to Chief Bosun in September 1918 and retired from the Royal Navy at own request on 15 May 1922 with the rank of Lieutenant after 31 years adult service. He died on 24 February 1941 aged 67 years.
