Harry Clark was born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on 10 June 1864. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. IMPREGNABLE on 4 November 1879, and subsequently served aboard H.M. Ships GANGES (1879-81) where he was advanced to Boy 1st Class during November 1880, NORTHUMBERLAND (1881-83) where he was made an Ord during June 1882 and earned his Egypt award, EXPRESS (1884-87) where he was advanced to A.B. during June 1884, and CONQUEST (1889-92) achieving the status of Leading Seaman in February 1889, Petty Officer 2nd Class in June 1889, and Petty Officer 1st Class during November 1889.

Whilst aboard HAWKE (1893-94) he was promoted to Acting Boatswain R.N. on 25 May 1894, and confirmed in this rank on 24 June 1895. He served aboard BARROSA (5 October 1894 to August 1897) when he was reported to have done
'Good service when landed during the Benin Expedition'. He subsequently served aboard BRITANNIA (1898-1901), TYNE (1902-04), and HIBERNIA (1906-09). He was pensioned ashore medically unfit on 30 September 1909, and died on 2 June 1913.
