George King was born on 22 October 1859 in Notting Hill, London. He attested at Walmer on 22 September 1877, and served aboard H.M.S. TOURMALINE from September 1880 until January 1883, earning the dated Egypt medal without clasp. He was made a member of the Royal Marine Battalion, Egypt, from 7 May 1884 until 16 May 1885, earning two clasps to his previous award. He next served a commission aboard PYLADES (1886-89) prior to being discharged with 12 years service on 7 January 1890. He was never awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal.
