Edwin Beisley was born in Lambeth, London, on 16 August 1858. He had been a butcher in civilian life and attested on 16 June 1876 at Walmer, joining as a Private R.M. in No 44 Company, Chatham Division. He was promoted to Corporal in December 1877, disrated to Private in August 1880 but reinstated as a Corporal in January 1881. He served aboard H.M.S. NEWCASTLE (1879-80) and was promoted to Sergeant R.M. on 17 November 1882. He served as a member of the Royal Marine Battalion, Egypt, from 4 March 1884, but died the following year on 5 July 1885 whilst serving at Hong Kong.
