Pair: Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, Suakin 1885 (W. Oakshott, E.R.A. H.M.S. Coquette); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (W. Oakshott, Eng. Rm. Artifr. H.M.S. Asia) impressed naming, some very light pitting, otherwise good very fine (2)

Willis Oakshott was born on 29 June 1851 in Wickham, Hampshire, and entered the service as an Acting Engine Room Artificer aboard H.M.S. ASIA on 24 September 1875. He was drafted to RIFLEMAN (1876-80) as an E.R.A. on 14 April 1876, and subsequently served aboard COQUETTE (20 January 1883 to 4 October 1885) to earn his Egypt campaign award. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. medal whilst aboard ASIA on 22 February 1886. He advanced to Chief E.R.A. on 22 November 1887 whilst aboard DOLPHIN (1887-89), and then served aboard ASSISTANCE (1890-93), HIBERNIA (1893-95), EXCELLENT (1895-98) and MAGDALA (1898-1900) from whence he was invalided to shore on 8 June 1900.
