Pascoe Spriddle was born in Deptford, Kent, on 28 April 1849. He joined the Royal Navy as a Ship's Steward's Boy aboard H.M.S. BOMBAY on 28 January 1864 until February 1865. He then served aboard NARCISSUS (1865-69) where he was advanced to Ship's Steward's Assistant during April 1868, ROYAL ADELAIDE (1869-71), ROYAL ALFRED (1871-74), and was advanced to Ship's Steward 3rd Class aboard BLACK PRINCE on 9 April 1874. He next served aboard DARING (1874-77) and PIONEER (1877-79) where for a few months he was employed as a Naval Schoolmaster during 1878. In May 1878 his Captain applied for his L.S. & G.C. medal but approval had to wait until he had served more than ten years, which was not achieved until 7 May 1879, when he was given his medal with servitude of ten years and twelve days. During the short time he spent aboard IMPREGNABLE he was advanced to Ship's Steward 2nd Class on 2 September 1880, and drafted to CARYSFORT (15 September 1880 to 14 April 1884) to take part in the Egypt Campaign for which he received a dated medal with clasp ‘Suakin 1884’, and further advancement to Ship's Steward 1st Class on 3 September 1893. He next served aboard ROYAL ADELAIDE (1884-88) and finally BENBOW (1888-90) where he was made a Ship's Steward on 1 July 1889. He was pensioned to shore on 25 June 1890.
