249 medals issued without clasp to H.M.S. Boadicea.

William H. Thompson was born in Sunderland, Durham, on 3 March 1848. He first entered the service as a Writer 3rd Class aboard H.M.S. AGINCOURT on 16 December 1868 for a year, followed by time aboard ACHILLES (1870-74) where he was advanced to Writer 2nd Class on 16 December 1873. Later served aboard H.M.S. RALEIGH (1874-77) prior to being drafted to BOADICEA in April 1878, where he was advanced to Writer 1st Class in December 1878 and paid off in May 1880. He was discharged from the service whilst at Haslar Hospital on 28 March 1882.
