Henry White was born on 12 January 1848 at Portsmouth and first entered the service as Armourer's Crew aboard H.M.S. RESISTANCE on 18 May 1869, and was transferred to H.M.S. SWALLOW in July 1871. Drafted to EXCELLENT in March 1876 and advanced to Armourer during June 1876, and subsequently sent to BOADICEA on 18 April 1878, where he died from unknown causes on 19 November 1880. His medal with its ‘1879’ clasp was sent to his widow in 1882.
