A Burma Campaign M.M. awarded to Naik Alam Khan, 12th Frontier Force Rifles
Military Medal, G.VI.R. (16206 Nk., FFR) edge bruise and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine

M.M. London Gazette 2 August 1945. The following recommendation was extracted from official records: ‘At MANDALAY on 10 March 1945 Naik Alam Khan was the sec comd of the leading section detailed for the frontal assault on Fort Dufferin. His section, under continuous heavy enemy automatic fire from the fort wall succeeded in getting onto the bridge across the moat where the section was completely exposed, and was unable either to advance or withdraw. During this period the enemy continued to fire upon his section causing four casualties. The section was ordered to withdraw and a smoke screen was laid by the supporting tanks in order to assist the withdrawal. This screen proved insufficient but Naik Alam Khan organised the withdrawal of his section and personally removed the dead and wounded from the bridge with complete disregard for his own safety. The outstanding bravery and devotion to duty shown by this NCO undoubtedly saved the lives of the wounded men and resulted in the successful withdrawal of the remainder of the section.’

Naik Alam Khan was originally recommended for an Immediate Indian Order of Merit but instead received an Immediate Military Medal.
