A Burma campaign Immediate M.M. awarded to Lance Corporal James Locke, The Royal Scots
Military Medal, G.VI.R. (3055382 L.Cpl., R.Scots.) very fine

M.M. London Gazette 12 July 1945. The following recommendation was extracted from official records: ‘On 6 Mar 45 at THANGON, BURMA this NCO was in command of a section in “B” Coy. The Company was leading the Bn attack on Thangon. On nearing the coy objective the enemy opened up with heavy LMG fire and 75 mm gun fire from short range. L/Cpl Locke managed to position his section on the flank and was able to locate the two 75 mm guns which were firing at the coy and troop of tks in support of the coy. He then brought accurate and heavy fire to bear against the gun causing them to abandon the guns which were subsequently captured by the company. At another stage in the same action he climbed onto one of the supporting tanks and successfully indicated to the tank commander the enemy post that was holding up the advance of his platoon. He displayed during this battle a high degree of personal courage and leadership, which were an inspiration to his platoon and considerably assisted the successful attack by his company.’
