M.M. London Gazette 12 April 1945. The following recommendation was extracted from official records: ‘During the night of 17-18 January 1945, “D” Batt. R.H.A. supported the attack of the 1st Comp. 5th Queen’s on SUSTEREN while covering the BAKENHOVEN BRIDGE. The enemy counter-attacked and L.Bomb. Yoxen’s Jeep came under severe small arms and mortar fire, he passed fire orders on his wireless until DF fire had broken up the attack. On reaching the start line he came under fire from an SP gun but stuck to his set and passed orders for the fire plan and for dealing with the SP. Later they were counter-attacked by infantry and tanks but he continued his duties with the utmost coolness and disregard of danger. L.Bomb. Yoxen’s gallant conduct in bringing accurate fire being brought down to break up the counter-attack was an inspiration to all.’
